Chapter 2 Airness
The automatic landing ramp extruded down to the tarmac, next to the newly constructed spin launch pad.
My teammates and I moved inside the Contractor's private lounge. Sitting together on the sectional couch all of us could watch the robots unload, and do the landing checks of our team’s personal transport disc. The robots worked separately and in groups to complete their programmed task. Scheduling and addendums to their computerized programmed tasks were developed by our team’s chief engineer, Arturo Ramonez, who we called Ramrod. Ramrod had earned that nickname over past years with the team. Together, we had survived and lived through the entire transition period from earth to Forsaken and now into the transitioning population of Airness. Ramrod is the oldest member of our team. Besides Ramrod, Assistant commander Julene Swenson is my right hand. I just call her Jules. She and I served together prior to the Elon catastrophic saga. After the final incident, the Forsaken Board rescinded all funding that sponsored that mission. In its place, the funding was funneled into Airness Planet Development. It was well understood by the reasoning life forms, that the Airness population was by invitation only and among the invites were the Forsaken board members, families, and the member-state governors and descendants. The majority of the Forsaken population and chimeric slave class would never visit, nor see Airness. As for our Assistant Commander, Jules, we had been on furlough during those explosions. We had spent our furloughed time together. We became close friends and found compatibility. Marriage among contractors was forbidden. If this had not been the case, we would have sought out Forsaken Licensing under the law. So instead we agreed to uphold our marriage in the eyes of the Lord, taking our marriage vows in front of two witnesses. Jules and I always contract out as a pair with our team. There are times when I am forced to attend Forsaken Board meetings without her, but usually she and I both attend in order to receive new orders. Jules and I are both aware of the significance of the ancient scroll reaching the one specific Pilgrim. By faith, we know that God is in control. We simply do our best to remain obedient to his tasks given to us. As we watched our transport disc robotically airlifted into its darkened storage space, Jules and I confirmed that now was the time to inform our team of the ancient scroll that had been placed inside the layers of the pressurized framing skeleton inside of our transport disc. We took this opportunity to call a meeting of the team for this reason. Drinking the rest of the rehydration liquid, I told the crew that I would expect them to be at my quarters in one hour for the week’s mission construction schedule. Everyone confirmed their understanding and I dismissed them. I was well aware that tracking, voice recognition as well as facial recognition was used in the private lounges of the tarmac's lounge areas. Knowing my quarters were secure, I chose to hold our briefing there.
